Gavinder Atwal Testimonial Self Defense Vancouver and Mixed Martial Arts
Hey Simon, I just wanted to say I’m glad I chose your gym to learn self defense. Just had a shoplifter who I had a fist fight with. Using a few leg kicks (surprisingly I landed them better then I do in class haha) And a take down I learned from you ( with the Olympic grip 😉 )I was able to handle the situation with control and confidence.  I’ll continue to try my hardest in class! See you tomorrow, thanks again!
Posener’s Pankration/MMA, Self Defense Vancouver and Muay Thai
We have gotten a number of testimonials of our style helping people in a variety of Self Defense Vancouver situations. This one from Gavinder is excellent as Gavinder is employed as a loss prevention agent and he has to confront thieves and apprehend them effectively. At this point in time Gavinder had been training for a under a year and is a keen student. Having some skills has helped him do his job and gain confidence in his self defense vancouver techniques. Gavinder, in this particular instance used some low kicks, which are a staple of our Muay Thai Kickboxing and Pankration/MMA program and some grappling, which are also utilized in our Muay thai kickboxing clinch techniques and in our Pankration/MMA program, which is primarily grappling and jiu-jitsu based. I should say that the Olympic grip in question is particularly a wrestling technique and our Pankration program has a wrestling base. When I use the word Jiu-Jitsu, I am referring to the no gi jiu-jitsu aspect. In Pankration/MMA, at our school we don’t train with the gi, as we want the quickest most efficient translation to MMA; and in MMA the competitors don’t wear a gi. I do respect the Gi aspect of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu as it is a detailed art that has many benefits and develops many positive grappling attributes. Perhaps in the future I will incorporate that into the class structure as an additional class.
Gavinder is now a dedicated student at our school and is committed to getting his black belt one day and striving for personal development to his full potential. In the traditional sense mixed martial arts has a primary purpose the development of self defense vancouver skills and corresponding mental benefits that accompany a development in self defense physical skills. In the process of this skill acquistion, a student will develop physical fitness and a variety of mental discipline benefits. It is a fascinating study of how these benefits are woven together in the three battles of the mind, body and spirit.
