Tabbitha Tam got gold in BJJ with a Gi and got gold in No Gi or Submission Wrestling. However, there was no one close to her age for MMA, which was disappointing. It would have been nice to see more mma competitors, especially considering the growth of the art and the sport.
Zola also got a gold in the No Gi / Submission Wrestling and had some tough matches with The Gi in her BJJ division. I think this is Zola’s first gold medal and that is always sweet…

Ozguzhan Yalcin fought in his first Cage Fight in MMA Vancouver at the BFL on Saturday night at the Hardrock Casino in Coquitlam, BC. The fight went the distance and could have been called for either fighter. In the first round Ozhan had the back and the mount for a large proportion of the round and was close to securing the Rear Naked Choke. In the second round there was some exchanges of grappling and Damon did secure a double leg from the cage by getting his hands clasped together and put Ozhan on his back. However, Ozhan did get a guillotine choke, with his neck caught, but was unable to finish. In the third round Ozhan executed some impressive wrestling takedowns but did get in a couple of triangle catches, which were defended quite well.. It was a close fight and I sincerely commend Ozhan for taking the challenge of stepping in to the cage with only a few months of MMA training. I am confident he will learn and keep applying his new skills and be very successful in MMA competitions. The future is very bright for this awesome young man.

On Sunday March 17 ’19 there were the Kickboxing competitions. Gus Rodriquez got another gold after a couple of tough matches, Lance Kawi got a silver medal after 3 tough matches, Edison Sun got a silver medal in his first Kickboxing tournament and Honorable mention goes to Stas Kokshin for fighting well in a close match in his first tournament. The experience helps growth. The concept ‘Pressure Builds Diamonds’, is useful in the pursuit of mixed martial arts excellence. The tournament and competitive experience does give someone something to look forward to and a goal to focus on. That is a positive and we want to stress those.. Right!. 🙂
