Adam wins 1st Double Gold at WBJJF Kids Jiu-Jitsu Vancouver

Jiu-Jitsu Vancouver

Jiu-Jitsu Vancouver

Adam had 2 opponents in his Gi Division and 2 opponents in his no gi division at the WBJJF, Oscar’s of Jiu-Jitsu Tournament held today on Saturday October 22 ’16.

His first match in the gi he won by triangle to armbar combination, his second match he won by his first arm in guillotine. In the no gi division he won his first match by jumping guard with a overhook shoulder lock and finished it on the ground in what is sometimes referred to as the ‘Mir lock’ because he made it famous in his UFC fight, and it is a somewhat unusual submission. In his final match in the no gi, Adam jumped on the opponents back from standing and finished the rear naked choke, as his opponent went to the ground.

This was the first time Adam has competed in both Gi and No Gi for Jiu-Jitsu Vancouver and he did a couple of different submissions that he has not done before in competition, which is fun. It is nice to have fun and some challenges, internally and externally.

We will look forward to more training, competition, learning and making progress.

Here is some information on our Kids MMA and Jiu-Jitsu Vancouver program:

Vancouver’s Premier Mixed Martial Arts school for children and youths.

With special attention given to motor skill development, mental focusing attributes, and children’s inherent capabilities. Youth kickboxing Vancouver Children’s and Teen classes are designed to emphasize:

– DISCIPLINE – RESPECT – CONFIDENCE DEVELOPMENT – SCHOOL ACHIEVEMENT

The development of these qualities and principals are given extra attention because they build a strong foundation in the three battles: the Mind, the Body, and the Spirit. If developed properly, then success is assured.

We engage in a brief zazen meditation at the beginning of each class to become present, focused and prepared for what is to come in the class, and, at the end of class, we meditate briefly to lock in the experiences, center our energy, and commit to continuing making progress. As a regular practice to enhance learning, we also repeat strongly the Tenets of the School, Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self Control, and Indomitable Spirit, at the end of each class to solidify the development of these qualities for Kids Mixed Martial Arts Vancouver.

Our Qualification Code, which is a form to be filled out by the parent and student for advancement in rank, for Kids MMA Vancouver at Posener’s Pankration/MMA and Muay Thai, highlights that respect and school achievement, in addition to the development of combative skills in mixed martial arts, are highly valued, esteemed and developed.

The development of equanimity of spirit is also given special attention in order to deal with challenges well; especially in regards to winning and losing. The attributes of effort, determination, skill development and spirit are given special attention, as these qualities will lead to enduring success. The goal of truly doing one’s best, regardless of outcome, especially in regards to some combative sport applications, is given priority to help develop progress, growth and character. The consistent and continuous goal of making progress in all areas, both on the mat and off, will help develop a student’s full long term potential for Kids/Youth MMA Vancouver at Posener’s Pankration/MMA and Muay Thai.

NAGA Tournament Results September 10 ’16: Congratulations to everyone who competed. NAGA attracts some of the best competitors and competing is a challenge in itself. So keep on enjoying the challenge and making big picture progress.

Adam Posener: Expert – Belt winner, Ayden Arnold: Expert- Silver, Marques Calapiz- Adavanced: Silver, Micah Calapiz: Adavanced- Silver, Kingston Park: Beginner – Silver and Bronze in his first Gi division ( Roll BJJ Partnership), Linh Thuy Diep: Beginner – Gold.

I will describe in some detail the expert divisions. For Adam this was quite a goal and accomplishment. He competed against two kids who have won multiple tournaments in World Championships. Against Russel the score was 15-0 and against Winter, he locked in, for the first time in competition, an inverted triangle, as a submission flow off the falling/flying armbar series. Ayden, in his no gi expert division, had an incredibly close match against a familiar competitor who he has competed against a couple of times before giving and taking victories. He lost by just one point in a back and forth affair that was highly contested with position changes, submission attempts by Ayden and reversals.  Ayden competed very well. Again, I want to acknowledge all the competitors for stepping up and challenging themselves in this highly competitive arena. I certainly love helping enthusiastic, willing, kids and adults through the martial arts. I feel strongly we have an excellent instructor team and we provide many opportunities for helping people get benefits from mixed martial arts practice on a variety of levels.

Francis Tiapis wins Ax Fighting MMA Title: Posener’s MMA Vancouver

Francis Tiapis wins Ax Fighting MMA Title: Posener’s MMA Vancouver

MMA Vancouver

MMA Vancouver

The New Ax Fighting MMA Champion is Francis Tiapis representing Posener’s MMA Vancouver. Francis wins the title in the second round by rear naked choke submission.  Many members of our team and Instructor team helped Francis get the belt but first, here is what happened. My interpretation is based on memory and I haven’t seen any video of the fight.

Round 1: The fight was largely on the feet with striking and wrestling. Both fighters exchanged and wrestled for position. Francis had an edge in striking and was able to defend the cage work and put Hunter against the cage. Francis also did some good ground and pound from the top half guard. Unfortunately Francis broke his hand in the first round. The break has been confirmed. It was a good round for both fighters. Francis was ready and Hunter demonstrated he was well versed in the cage and had good experience, as his 15 mma fights would indicate.

Round 2: I think Francis knew his hand was injured badly and he decided to put the fight on the ground. Hunter was able to maintain guard but Francis was able to pass to half guard, execute ground and pound and then pass guard. Hunter re guarded and the Jiu-Jitsu battle was on. I instructed Francis to pass more strongly and stabilize the north south position, which Hunter utilized his pendulum to re guard and Francis had to battle for another pass and transition to north south position again and he was successful. He then worked to mount, held mount, stabilized mount and during the transitions Francis was able to maintain top position and sink in the rear naked choke for the submission victory and claim the title. It was a very exciting match and huge congratulations to Francis on taking the title with a clean, clear victory. Thank you to Hunter and his team, as they are great competitors and a good group.

Special thanks to our awesome instructor team and assistants: Costa Rojas, George Kassimatis, Paul Gibbons, Minna Kim, Victor Tiapis, Gus Rodriquez for the strength and conditioning and all the other members of the school who helped out.. Thank you from Posener’s MMA Vancouver.

Here is some information on our Pankration/MMA Vancouver and Submission Wrestling/ Jiu-Jitsu program:

Vancouver’s ultimate Submission Wrestling training for: Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), Self Defense, Fitness, Mental Discipline and Sport.

Our Submission Wrestling classes utilize techniques adapted from free-style wrestling, Brazilian Jiu-jitsu – BJJ Vancouver, “Catch-as-catch-can” (Folk American wrestling), Catch Wrestling, Shoot wrestling, Sambo, and Judo. These techniques are modified to be applicable for Pankration, MMA fighting (Mixed Martial Arts) and Submission wrestling as a sport. Our submission wrestling classes are a subsection of our Pankration curriculum.

It is the blending of our striking within the grappling context that makes our style unique and distinctive.
Whether it is the blending of striking and grappling to and from clinching, to take-downs, to ground fighting with submissions, our style is geared towards practicality.

Since our style and curriculum has a broad range of techniques, the individual student has the ability and potential to express their skills to the fullest degree.

Our classes provide an excellent physical workout developing muscular strength, muscular endurance, cardio vascular fitness and flexibility. In the process of training and getting in great shape, the student will be learning techniques that are useful for self-defence and sport.

Our classes are taught by experienced martial artists emphasizing discipline and respect with the aim of helping the student achieve their goals while enjoying the process and developing camaraderie. Many of the students and instructors have been successful using the school’s style in pankration/mixed martial arts and submission wrestling competition.
