Here is a brief description of the BFL Fight: Posener’s MMA Vancouver:

Gio Platon had a great fight last night for the BFL MMA Title. The end result was not the desired outcome. In the first round Gio executed dominant striking. Gio was landing strong low kicks, fast and powerful boxing and elusive footwork. He delivered a lot of damaging kicks and punches. He knocked Paul’s mouth guard out approximately 3 or 4 times and had Paul in serious trouble a number of times where he was staggered and almost finished. However, Paul was tough, resilient, durable, determined and skillful in his own right, as he is also a mma champion with more than twice the number of mma fights than Gio. Paul made it out of the 1st round. Gio’s striking was on point and his wrestling was strong in defending takedowns and positions off the cage. There were some exchanges on the ground with both fighters initiating takedowns and countering. They were both able to achieve a takedown or two. Gio was also able to get the fight back to the feet where his advantage was strongest. It was an incredibly fast pace for a 5 round title fight in the first round. Gio started the second round strongly also and was hitting his opponent effectively but was started to show signs of fatigue. Eventually after an exchange of wrestling and positioning on the ground, and Gio being extremely tired, Paul got Gio on his back with Gio able to acheive the guard but was unable to defend some ground strikes or escape, due to the fatigue and intensity. He took a few strikes in the guard and the referee stopped the fight. It was certainly a bitter pill, as he wanted the belt but Gio gained the admiration of fans and competitors. Gio’s resilient spirit can help him learn from this and he knows the areas to improve on to take him to the belt and beyond in the future. Congratulations to Paul, as he showed great heart, durability and skill. It was a great battle of top amateur warriors in mixed martial arts. Gio said in the post fight speech, after the announcers congratulated him on an awesome display of speed, and technique, that he would be back. It was an honor to teach, and coach. We will look forward to the next time. Special thanks to Costa Rojas and George Kassimatis for coaching and all the other instructors, assistants and supporters. OSU!

Here is what Gio said about his fight and his perspective on Social Media:

Didn’t come through with the win, but I did the best that I could. He was the better man that night, it was a tough loss. But that’s part of this ruthless sport that I love ! I had fun no matter what and it was a great experience! Shout out to all my family and friends that came out to support! Still just the beginning for me. Lots to learn. I’m not perfect inside or outside the cage, but believe me I’m trying to be the best version of myself everyday. I will learn from my mistakes and correct them. It was a hell of a night, hope y’all were entertained 😎💣🇨🇦🇵🇭 #posenerspankration #stillblessed#warriors4life #bfl52 #mma

This is what the promoter said after the fight, since Gio accepted the fight even though the opponent did not make the title fight weight:

At BFL52 Gio saved the show by accepting a title fight in a higher weightclass despite his opponent coming in 3 pounds over….Gio will be granted an automatic title shot in March 2018 at 135 or 145 whichever division his camp chooses….

Here is a brief description of Hayden Francis and his philosophy:

Hayden started BJJ by taking grappling classes in high school, from then on he was hooked. His official training began in December of 2009 at Gracie Barra Jiu Jitsu School and Hayden quickly adopted Jiu Jitsu as the foundation of his daily activity; helping his focus and supporting all other aspects of his life. Hayden’s teaching goals focus on conceptual learning that matches the goals and learning styles of students. Hayden believes learning concepts rather than a step-by-step process helps to make lessons more solid for students and let them follow their own path in Jiu Jitsu.

Hayden is currently a brown belt and has a wealth of experience in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu  ( BJJ Vancouver ) and competition.

Happy is the man who is living by his hobby.” – George Bernard Shaw

If you don’t already have a hobby, or perhaps are looking for one, then why not try martial arts if you haven’t already done so! It doesn’t matter whether you choose to train Muay Thai, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu or boxing – each martial art has its own unique set of techniques and variations for you to learn and execute. So if it has been awhile since you tried something new or picked up a different skill, then why not be a student all over again? Because there’s so much to learn in martial arts, there’s no doubt that you’ll never get bored and always have room for improvement. Hence, you will ultimately work towards becoming the best version of yourself – in and out of the gym.

2) Because it keeps you in the pink of health

As we get caught up with work or the demands of everyday life, we sometimes fail to take care of ourselves properly. Unfortunately, this does nothing but make us unhealthy and vulnerable to all kinds of illnesses later in life. The thing is, it’s never too late to turn this around and start treating your body the way it deserves to be treated – with utmost respect and care.

If you haven’t been taking care of yourself the way you deserve to be taken care of, then why not kick-start an active lifestyle by training martial arts? Besides being a fun hobby and a great way to get fit, martial arts also boosts your immune system and strengthens your bones.

3) Because you’ll get into the best shape ever

4) Because it will always make you happy

5) Because it enables you to unleash your greatness

If you find that you can’t maximize your potential in school or work, then martial arts could be an outlet for you to do so, should you choose to make it a hobby. After all, you will have power over how much you wish to train or how far you intend to go – be it to eventually compete or to simply keep progressing till you eventually become the best martial artist you can be.

Besides that, martial arts will forge an unbreakable warrior spirit within you. Hence, you will be able to deal with all kinds of adversity and overcome the obstacles you might face outside the gym as well. As a result, you will definitely go on to achieve great things.

Are you ready to reinvigorate your life by picking up martial arts? Why not try it for yourself and pull yourself out of that slump!

Huge Congratulations! What a great night! Francis Tiapis wins the AMA MMA title by fourth round arm bar submission. Gio Platon wins his MMA debut by 2nd round stoppage due to strikes. Details to follow. A sincere thank you to the supporters and awesome instructor team including: Costa Rojas, George Kassimatis, Andrew De Leon, Gus Rodriquez, Chris Toews, Filip Matos, Emilio Ditrocchio and more. It is a team effort and the contributions are a great benefit. With expert instruction in MMA, Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai and Strength and Conditioning, we are getting some good results.

Also, a thank you to the team of students, friends and parents who support the MMA Vancouver training at Posener’s Pankration/MMA. What an honor and privilege. We had a good positive team spirit and that helps greatly and makes the process enjoyable and fulfilling. Let’s keep that up.

Here are the details, in brief:

Francis fights a well prepared, game opponent with well rounded skills. We did see him fight at the World Championships and he did quite well winning some fights, particularly by submission. He was an effective striker with strong ground skills and certainly gave Francis all he could handle. In the first round, he used his long legs and secured a tight triangle, which he almost finished and then later in the round used that triangle to sweep Francis get on the mount and land some ground and pound. Francis, with great guts, perseverance and will, dealt with the problem and did get out at the end of the round but he did sustain some damage. Also, Sambath was able to back Francis up against the ropes and shoot in successfully because he minimized Francis’s excellent sprawling skills by pressuring the position and confining the space. A little more ring awareness and urgency would have helped. Some of the situations became stale mated against the ropes and highly contested and Francis did well in defending. Striking wise, Francis landed some good shots with hard punches and some solid low kicks. Francis had his opponent on the verge of trouble a few times but Sam should resilience, toughness and desire of his own to be the champion.

By the fourth round of a tough, good fight, Francis was able to secure an armbar catch from the bottom, which was defended and then Francis used his swim move to turn his opponent over and then use ‘ his’ move and foot pressure to break the lion kill defense to win the fight and capture his second MMA Title. Fantastic work. Very impressive Mr. Francis Tiapis. Enjoy the victory!

Gio Platon comes to fight and in his MMA debut takes the victory by using his MMA and wrestling skills and ground skills.  GIo comes in to the fight confident, in great shape, and excited to get in there and make his best fight. After tasting a few of Gio’s strikes and his Muay Thai skills his opponent successfully puts Gio to the ground and achieves the mount. This could have spelled the end for lesser determined fighters as the mount was strong, well balanced and Gio needed some time to reverse the position. Fortunately the mount was strong and stablized but  little damage was done and Gio showed good patience in waiting for the right time to reverse the position.  The time came and Gio bridged well to reverse.  Gio was landing very strong strikes and it became clear that the opponent wanted to do all he could to put the fight on the ground but Gio defended well the clinch and shot attempts. The opponent also executed some partially successful sweeps but Gio was able to counter with his strong attributes.  By the second round, Gio was getting his groove on and was able to execute his game plan and impose his will by landing clean, crisp strikes that ended the fight in the second.  It was great to see Gio defend the early mount and take a clear and decisive victory in his MMA debut. I am confident that with mat time and training time Gio will continue to excel and strive to his potential. Great victory for Gio and the team! OSU! Enjoy!

5 Reasons to start training in MMA: Posener’s MMA Vancouver

5 Reasons to start training in MMA:  Posener’s MMA Vancouver

There’s a good reason why MMA, or mixed martial arts, is the fastest growing sport in the world. Thanks to organizations such as ONE Championship and the UFC, mixed martial artists have become household names, right up there with boxing legends. If you didn’t already know, mixed martial arts is a sport that applies aspects of both standing (striking) and ground (grappling) martial arts.

Because of its utilization of different martial arts, many consider mixed martial arts to be one of the most challenging sports out there. It is also the most realistic system for real-life self-defense situations. If you’re looking for the best way to challenge yourself mentally and physically, perhaps an MMA class is right up your alley. Today, Evolve Daily shares 5 Reasons Why You Should Start MMA Now In 2017:

1) MMA will make you the fittest you’ve ever been

The Lee siblings have been training martial arts ever since they were toddlers. MMA Vancouver

If you’re looking for a way to get into great shape, you should consider MMA. MMA fighters are all about conditioning – after all, it takes a lot of strength and endurance to last 15 minutes in the cage. Because MMA fighters need to excel in every aspect of fighting, be it on the ground, striking on their feet or pummeling in the clinch, they are constantly battling it out with their opponents to finish the fight. If that doesn’t make you fit, we don’t know what else will!

2) MMA is the perfect system for self-defense

Should you ever find yourself in a precarious situation, knowing MMA would certainly come in handy. Developed with the intention of making it as realistic as possible, MMA is undoubtedly the most perfect system for self-defense. Whether you find yourself taken down to the ground or working to deflect strikes on your feet, training MMA will prepare you for both scenarios.

3) MMA will teach you discipline

BJJ World Champion and ONE Superstar Alex Silva trains hard at the Evolve MMA Fighters Program.

Training MMA requires commitment. You need to clock in extensive training hours to become successful in the cage – you’ll need to attend grappling, and striking classes apart from your regular training. If you’re planning on competing, you will need to maintain a healthy diet for a successful weight cut. There’s a lot of hard work involved in becoming a great mixed martial artist – and if you’re disciplined enough, you’ll certainly achieve your goal someday.

4) MMA will take your martial arts journey to the next level

If you’ve been practicing martial arts for awhile, you’d know that applying your martial arts knowledge to MMA is a different ball game altogether. Unlike before, you aren’t just focusing on a single martial art – you’re learning other arts and discovering how they work together in an MMA setting. Whether you’ve been training striking or grappling, learning both will certainly prove to be an interesting challenge.

5) MMA will help unleash the competitor in you

ONE Superstar Mark Striegl started training MMA when he was in high school. MMA Vancouver

Competing and practicing martial arts are two completely different things. When you compete, you’ll be challenged both mentally and physically as you put all that you’ve learned to the test. MMA will help you unleash that competitive spirit. Because the sport of MMA was built on competition, you’ll learn how to harness that inner warrior spirit and take your martial arts journey to a whole other level. This would undoubtedly help you in and out of the gym, encouraging you to be resilient as you push through the challenges you face.

Are you now convinced that you need to start training MMA? So go on, challenge yourself. Sign up for that first class and see how you fare. We guarantee you’ll have the best workout you’ve ever had!
