5 Ways Martial Arts Spices Up Your Life: MMA Vancouver

Have you been feeling jaded? Perhaps your job, school or maybe a mundane routine has caused you to feel that way. Or maybe you’re just in need of an adventure. Well, whatever it is, we believe that it’s time to spice up your life – especially if you’ve been feeling bored and/or restless. After all, life is too short to not be enjoying and living in every moment.

Are you ready to inject some excitement into your life? Today, Evolve Daily shares 5 Ways Martial Arts Spices Up Your Life:

1) It gets your heart racing

There’s no doubt that martial arts would make your heart beat faster. After all, it is intense – and the best part is that there’s never a dull moment in training because there’s so much to learn. Psst! That’s why some people find themselves falling in love with their martial art of choice and training for life.

If you’ve never set foot in a martial arts gym before, it might seem intimidating – but trust us, it’s totally worth going for that first class and experiencing it for yourself before deciding what to do next. If you never try, you’ll never know what you’re missing out on! And if you think about it, you’ve got nothing to lose by trying.

2) It boosts your mood

Have you been feeling down lately? Well, if that’s happening, then you should definitely start training martial arts because it will boost your endorphin production and leave you feeling happy after every session. What’s more, it’s a great way to vent your frustration and forget about your worries (even if it’s just for an hour!) Not convinced? Then check out our article on how martial arts can scientifically keep you happy and stress-free!

3) It sculpts your body

It’s no secret that martial arts will give you a lean, toned body. After all, you can burn up to 1,000 calories in just an hour of training! Besides that, you would learn to defend yourself in the face of danger – which is an extremely important life skill that could come in handy someday.

What’s more, martial arts is extremely effective when it comes to melting away fat, so why not punch your way to a great body? Nothing is more fulfilling than working towards (and crushing) your goals, be it fitness, body or martial arts goals.

4) It builds your confidence

Life is definitely much better when you trust yourself with making important decisions and more importantly, believe in yourself. So your lack of self-confidence could possibly be making you miserable and causing you to feel like your life is a drag. After all, when you constantly question and doubt yourself, how are you going to have fun?

Fortunately, training martial arts would boost your self-confidence, especially when you make progress in class and get closer to your dream body. When this happens, you’ll notice that you appreciate your body for all that it can do for you, as well as the simple things in life (like having that cheat meal!)

5) It encourages you to step out of your comfort zone

What’s more exciting than exploring and getting lost in new worlds? If you think about it, there’s so much to experience and immerse in out there – just that we sometimes decide to stick to what’s comfortable and familiar, so we end up missing out.

Well, you don’t have to worry about missing out on new experiences when you start training martial arts. Apart from being a whole new thing you’re trying out, martial arts would also teach you to embrace the unknown and make you a bolder individual. That means you would happily step out of your comfort zone, broaden your horizons, and grow significantly in the process.

So tell us, are you ready to spice up your life? Why not sign up for a class and see how it goes!

Jiu-Jitsu Vancouver

Adam had 2 opponents in his Gi Division and 2 opponents in his no gi division at the WBJJF, Oscar’s of Jiu-Jitsu Tournament held today on Saturday October 22 ’16.

His first match in the gi he won by triangle to armbar combination, his second match he won by his first arm in guillotine. In the no gi division he won his first match by jumping guard with a overhook shoulder lock and finished it on the ground in what is sometimes referred to as the ‘Mir lock’ because he made it famous in his UFC fight, and it is a somewhat unusual submission. In his final match in the no gi, Adam jumped on the opponents back from standing and finished the rear naked choke, as his opponent went to the ground.

This was the first time Adam has competed in both Gi and No Gi for Jiu-Jitsu Vancouver and he did a couple of different submissions that he has not done before in competition, which is fun. It is nice to have fun and some challenges, internally and externally.

We will look forward to more training, competition, learning and making progress.

4 Ways to Build Mental Toughness for Martial Arts Vancouver

4 Ways to Build Mental Toughness for Martial Arts Vancouver

4 Ways To Build Your Mental Toughness In Martial Arts

Mental toughness – the one thing that helps the greatest martial artists persevere through their darkest hours, whether in the ring, cage, or on the mats. It is what gives them that extra dose of energy when they can barely stand. It is what helps them face any challenge and solve any problem that might come their way. It is also how they are able to put their emotions aside and remain focused on what’s truly important – the present moment. Besides that, it is something that is built over time, slowly, by making themselves uncomfortable and pushing past all thresholds.

As a martial artist yourself, there’s no doubt that you’re looking to level up. You want to improve yourself physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually to become the best martial artist you could be. If you’re wondering how to do so, look no further. Today,

4 Ways To Build Your Mental Toughness In Martial Arts:

1) Drill before and after class

When you get to training, it’s nice to hang out with teammates before class and just talk. Same thing goes for after training – it’s nice to hang out with people who understand you. After all, making friends is part of martial arts. However, choosing to drill instead will certainly help you develop your mental toughness. Even though you’d much rather relax or take it easy before and after a grueling class, drilling is a painful yet strategic option. Not only will doing drills help you improve your techniques, it will also test your dedication further.

2) Do more repetitions than necessary

BJJ Champion Gamal Hassan trains with 4x US Olympic Judoka at the Evolve Fighters Program.

When your instructor asks you to do 10 repetitions of a certain technique, do you follow what he says? Or do you push yourself a few extra more repetitions because there’s more time to do them? If you want to test your mental toughness, doing more repetitions than your instructor asks of you (time permitting, of course) will certainly do it. Some students struggle with completing just 10. If you can do more repetitions, why not do so? It will only help you improve in the long run.

3) Spar against your nemesis

Whether we’d like to admit it or not, we all have our nemesis in training. Maybe it’s someone you’ve started training together more or less at the same time and for some reason, techniques that seem to work easily on other partners aren’t working at all with this person. Or perhaps it’s someone that you just can’t beat or someone that keeps on beating you. Whatever your reason for branding this person as your nemesis, you need to let go and start sparring him/her. If you want to level up in training, you must embrace every challenge – without exceptions.

4) Use a new technique in sparring

The americana lock is also known as the bent armlock, keylock, top wristlock, figure four armlock in catch wrestling, and ude garami in judo.

The americana lock is also known as the bent armlock, keylock, top wristlock, figure four armlock in catch wrestling, and ude garami in judo.

We all have certain techniques we’re comfortable with. These are the techniques that are a surefire bet to our success in sparring because we’ve done them over and over again and we’re confident in them. What we don’t realize is that by doing so, we’re preventing ourselves from learning more. Staying in our comfort zones is detrimental to our improvement because we aren’t challenging ourselves. Before we know it, we’ve been taken over by our peers. Instead, we should push ourselves to use new techniques, at least once or twice, during sparring. Yes, you might lose, but pick yourself up afterward and work on your mistakes. Doing so will inevitably turn these mistakes into newfound favorite techniques — trust us!

The road to success in martial arts is never straightforward or easy. It’s full of challenges that force you to make a choice between quitting and pushing through. These crossroads separate the mentally tough from the mediocre. In order to become the best martial artist we could be, we need to overcome our weaknesses and look at our failures straight in the eye. We need to keep on pushing ourselves to the limit. This is the only way to take our martial arts journey to the next level.

I hope you consider these important points, train hard, ask questions and make great progress.
