NAGA ’17 Tournament Results In Everett:
Ayden Arnold: Belt in No Gi, Silver in Gi, Rodean Nazari: Belt in No Gi and Silver in Gi due to leg scissor submission in the final moments while up on points and getting a warning for stalling and the resultant desire to make things happen, which was my fault, I thought it was a legal move..sorry…Francis Tiapis: Gold in No Gi, Artin Nazari: Silver in No Gi, and Silver in Gi, Kingston Park: Bronze in No Gi, and Silver in Gi, and Harper Park in her first tournament got a silver.
It was an honor, a privilege, and a pleasure to help the students prepare for this event. I do enjoy the preparation and looking forward to challenges. So I will look forward to the next one. The students had some good challenges today with some wins and losses and that is part of the program where we have to apply some of the concepts that are taught in the philosophical applications of the traditional arts. Equanimity of spirit is important where we moderate both victory and defeat and concentrate on making progress regardless of the emotional challenge associated with each outcome. With victory the challenge can be complacency, over confidence and lack of progress and defeat can sometimes lead to negativity, and also lack of progress. To develop the spirit it would be much better to focus on making progress and look actively for the positive aspects of the situation.
Sometimes it is good to be reminded of this equanimity of spirit concept. It will help in many areas that some may not be aware of and the greater issues that are outside of ourselves and consider others and the team also.
Thank you for the parents, friends, and awesome instructor team, George Kassimatis, Costa Rojas, Hayden Francis, Emilio Ditrocchio, Andrew De Leon, Adam Posener and the rest. OSU!
