Kids MMA Vancouver Jr. Pankration/MMA Test Results for June 16 ’12
Jr. Pankration/MMA belt test results: Congratulations to Jaecen Legaspi on earning his Jr. Black belt. Also: Keira Lee-Pi-Black stripe, Avery Lee-pi-Red belt, Josh Oro-purple belt, Nolin Lee-pi-yellow belt and Jason Ha- yellow belt. 🙂
Certainly one of the highlights of this test is Jaecen Legaspi getting his Jr. black belt in Pankration/MMA. Jaecen is now about 14 years old and has been training for approximately 8 years, to the best of my memory. Jaecen has excellent striking skills and is constantly improving on his wrestling and jiu-jitsu. As he moves into his teens he is appreciating the need for more detailed instruction and application. He is learning that with greater attention to detail, he can apply the techniques effectively against much larger opponents. Since his striking is very good, and he is a bit on the small side, he has been working on dealing with larger opponents in his guard and wrestling defense. These skills takes time and Jaecen is getting better and better at it. I am confident he will continue to do well in school and take his mixed martial arts training to the next level.
Jaecen, as a jr. black belt, also helps with teaching the kids mma classes. As part of the Black Belt program, prospective students are given the ability to pass on what they have learned in a structured environment. By assisting in classes, Jaecen has come to appreciate where he has come from and to give benefits to others. He enjoys helping other children younger than himself in acquiring mma skills, as he has done. The journey is certainly not over, as the teenage years will pose a variety of challenges; and Jaecen has some extra tools now mentally, physically and spiritually to deal with these challenges. The ‘indomitable spirit’ that is emphasized will help a practitioner persevere, not quit, and keep going until the result is as desired.
Some details on the other students progress will be forthcoming.
