Francis Wins AMA MMA title and Gio wins MMA debut: Posener’s MMA Vancouver
Also, a thank you to the team of students, friends and parents who support the MMA Vancouver training at Posener’s Pankration/MMA. What an honor and privilege. We had a good positive team spirit and that helps greatly and makes the process enjoyable and fulfilling. Let’s keep that up.
Here are the details, in brief:
Francis fights a well prepared, game opponent with well rounded skills. We did see him fight at the World Championships and he did quite well winning some fights, particularly by submission. He was an effective striker with strong ground skills and certainly gave Francis all he could handle. In the first round, he used his long legs and secured a tight triangle, which he almost finished and then later in the round used that triangle to sweep Francis get on the mount and land some ground and pound. Francis, with great guts, perseverance and will, dealt with the problem and did get out at the end of the round but he did sustain some damage. Also, Sambath was able to back Francis up against the ropes and shoot in successfully because he minimized Francis’s excellent sprawling skills by pressuring the position and confining the space. A little more ring awareness and urgency would have helped. Some of the situations became stale mated against the ropes and highly contested and Francis did well in defending. Striking wise, Francis landed some good shots with hard punches and some solid low kicks. Francis had his opponent on the verge of trouble a few times but Sam should resilience, toughness and desire of his own to be the champion.
By the fourth round of a tough, good fight, Francis was able to secure an armbar catch from the bottom, which was defended and then Francis used his swim move to turn his opponent over and then use ‘ his’ move and foot pressure to break the lion kill defense to win the fight and capture his second MMA Title. Fantastic work. Very impressive Mr. Francis Tiapis. Enjoy the victory!
GIo Platon wins his MMA debut by impressive 2nd round stoppage due to strikes.
Gio Platon comes to fight and in his MMA debut takes the victory by using his MMA and wrestling skills and ground skills. GIo comes in to the fight confident, in great shape, and excited to get in there and make his best fight. After tasting a few of Gio’s strikes and his Muay Thai skills his opponent successfully puts Gio to the ground and achieves the mount. This could have spelled the end for lesser determined fighters as the mount was strong, well balanced and Gio needed some time to reverse the position. Fortunately the mount was strong and stablized but little damage was done and Gio showed good patience in waiting for the right time to reverse the position. The time came and Gio bridged well to reverse. Gio was landing very strong strikes and it became clear that the opponent wanted to do all he could to put the fight on the ground but Gio defended well the clinch and shot attempts. The opponent also executed some partially successful sweeps but Gio was able to counter with his strong attributes. By the second round, Gio was getting his groove on and was able to execute his game plan and impose his will by landing clean, crisp strikes that ended the fight in the second. It was great to see Gio defend the early mount and take a clear and decisive victory in his MMA debut. I am confident that with mat time and training time Gio will continue to excel and strive to his potential. Great victory for Gio and the team! OSU! Enjoy!
